Are we allowed to say “I love you”?

Over the 2 years since we did the first “What does Love Look Like”? event with GLA, we’ve spent a lot of time thinking and talking about the effect on young people and adults in the social care system of the language they’re allowed to use. Young people have learned to exchange the simple, human vocabulary of “love” for professional terms, such as speaking about their “attachment” to their foster carers or parents.  This article from the Guardian about institutionalised language has been very influential in our thinking about how to put together the #BeyondCare event for City Hall on 26th October: it’s definitely worth a read.
